I-remember

The Overwhelm that the mind creates

I came back home with my family from Poland, where we spent a two-week holiday. After a 25-hour non-stop drive, we finally reached our house, and I was shocked by how everything in the garden had dried up. The grass was yellow and covered with leaves from the surrounding lime trees, and the flowers were completely dry. In an instant, I thought to myself, There is SO much work to do!

We unpacked the whole car, watered the garden and went to sleep.

The next day, the first thing I saw was the mess of clothes, books, Lego, toys and all the other things we had brought back from Poland. I also noticed everything that still hadn’t been finished in the house during the renovation, I needed to cook, get back into our daily routine, and my mind went crazy!

Then, in an instant, I woke up to what was happening.

“Oh, my mind! What are you doing? You’re driving yourself crazy! You want everything to be different, and you think that only then will you be happy!”

I felt so much relief and smiled to myself, recognising the pattern without judging it. Instead, I relaxed on the inside. I started taking deeper breaths and remembered: I’m not here to constantly fix things; I’m here to be.

And I allowed myself to be.

Doing one thing at a time.

Enjoying it.

Since that day, I have been more present than ever before. It is so restful for the body. Life hasn’t changed, but the way I experience it has.

Have you ever noticed your mind convincing you that everything has to be done before you can truly relax?
